From a scientific perspective, fear comes from the Reptilian or Lizard Brain. This smallest area of the mind will have a large impact on our everyday lives. The lizard mind also deals with survival instincts. 

When it senses danger, it reacts with fight or flight responses. This relates to both physical and psychological dangers. These response has functioned well in many facets of our lives, but fear became our nemesis. 
 
We base our activities on fear daily. When we come up against something new or different, we become uncomfortable nervous. This causes us to pause and assess our alternatives. This is where disconnects occur. We've got a propensity to rely on gut feelings to create decisions, so naturally we prevent dead in our tracks and select NOT to take that next, frightening step. What we don't recognized is this dread originates in our lizard brain, not in our gut instincts. 

Two entirely different sources of the thought processes we use daily. As a matter of fact, listening to dread cuts us off from the origin. The origin is our true link to motivated action. 
 
This is what helps us in stepping into new experiences. Numerous different basic fears are listed in books or even magazines. Lets look at several examples, shall we? 
 
Fear of Poverty If I do not have sufficient money, I'm not worthy of anything good and also no one will ever love me. 
 
Fear of Criticism I cannot handle being criticized because it can make me feel unworthy and unloved. 

Fear of Loss of Love Definitely brings up emotions of unworthiness and being unlovable. 
 
Fear of Old Age Old people are ignored discounted in society so I would not be worthy of anyone's love or respect. 
 
Fear of Death This one has so many connotations in both religious and practical viewpoints.
